I’m reading James McPherson’s extremely brief biography of Lincoln. It’s not the first biography of Lincoln I’ve read, but I’m reading it through somewhat different eyes than the last time. I’ve always assumed that Lincoln was right in everything he did. It’s kind of a given in our society. Until recently I had never even heard anyone question anything Lincoln did. Violent Crime in a Libertarian Society
This is an issue on which I’m still ignorant of the libertarian position.
In a libertarian society there would theoretically be no public court system. A violent crime would be brought to a private court, where the victim would make a case for restitution against the perpetrator. Fair enough, but what of the perpetrator who will not voluntarily come to court? Who catches him? Under what authority? How is he held, and under what authority?
