Are You Against Immigration or Just Illegal Immigration?
“I’m not against immigration, just illegal immigration.”
I’ve said these words countless times. But I’m not so sure I really believed it. Do you? Prepare the answer in your head before you read on.
Imagine that all immigration were made legal tomorrow. Then there would be no illegal immigration. Problem solved, right? After all, you’re not against immigration, just illegal immigration, and there’s nothing more making illegal immigration illegal than a law on the books, which can be overturned with the stroke of a pen, right?
So are you really against only illegal immigration, or against all immigration?
What is the libertarian solution for illegal immigration?
The illegal immigration debate is one that I don’t claim any particular viewpoint on. I’m completely open-minded and am seeking the right solution. I am also not familiar with libertarian arguments on the matter, but would like to know what they are so please post content, links, etc. in the comments.
I, like many Republican-conservatives, once believe the issue to be fairly black and white.
